RS> I am looking for a way to put a scrambler on my RS> cordless phone, can anyone help me out? RS> also would be neat to make the range a little extended. RS> tnx in advance for you help JDR products sells a scrambler/descrambler kit that would do what you want. You would need one on the base unit and one on the handset. >> I am looking for a way to put a scrambler on my >> cordless phone, can anyone help me out? .......... > What you suggest is not only illegal, it is extremely impractical. If Neither is it illegal nor impractical. I have a master catalog from MX COM. Inc. It has a section on secure voice application chips. The chips range from single band frequency inversion to digital scrambling. Phone# is 800-638-5577 919-744-5050 Fax# is 919-744-5054 Address is MX COM, Inc. 4800 Bethania Station Rd Winston-Salem, NC 27105-1201 Intl. Telex 5101012852 JW@9> The kits that I saw advertised in various publications seem to be in JW@9> the $200-300 range. I have heard there are some more companies into it Ramsey has been selling a kit for years, for right around $30.00. Speech inversion scrambling, like Radio Shack uses on it's "Scrambled" phone, is, and has been, at least for the past 15 years, cheap. JW@9> > Hmm, wouldn't you want a scrambler that didn't have a decoder JW@9> > that JW@9> > was so easy to buy? I'd rather have a decoder that only *I* JW@9> > know how JW@9> > to unscramble (if only that WERE possible). JW@9>Well, I'll tell you what was on my mind at the time I replied to that mess JW@9>First off, I considered the cost of building a decoder as you spoke of abo JW@9>and knew that was off of reach of most people. Second, I treated the fello JW@9>like one of my customers and figured most folks just want to keep their ph JW@9>conversations from being picked by a scanner. Hence, the reason I gave the JW@9>cheap way out. JW@9> I'm with you on the part wanting a decoder/encoder set of my own design, JW@9>after 10 years as a electornic tech, I knew I didn't have that much money JW@9>spend on such a project. Some folks may be better off than I financially a JW@9>have the time to devote to such a project, but not I! Later! There is at least one cordless being sold now with digital scrambling... pretty expensive though. Radio Shack sells one for $160 that uses voice inversion. Easily defeatable if one is inclined to do so and knows where to get a kit (Ramsey).I doubt if most people would bother, since there is so many cordlesses out there, unless you were considered an unusually interesting catch..
