I am in the process of planning on makeing myself DP> "mobile". A good car with selfcontained camper, a selfcontianed DP> I plan on stocking my bus well with needed survival materials. I used to always want an extended 4x4 van set up like that. Large buses would be better for transporting and living in, and I'd do it in a second if it weren't for the wife (durned women..). After adding it all up, I resigned myself to keeping equipment at one or more locations, and I use an economical 4x4 pickup for transportation. The pickup has enough capacity to move all the really important stuff (and the wife too ), and I don't have to pay all the extra insurance for a second vehicle. I'm playing around with some ideas on making a quick tent for the bed of the pickup; lining the bed floor with plywood to store supplies underneath, and a tent that'll give ample room above for sleeping and sitting. Not as cozy as a bus, but adequate. JM>making do with less, quitting paying interest, etc. Barter systems need JM>careful consideration also.. DP> This is an area we should be discussing anyway on this echo, isn't it? Has anyone come to any conclusion what the best barter items would be? I'm feeling like junk silver coins and .22 ammo would be among the best trade items. Boxes of ammo have a specific value like silver, and can be easily purchased and stored. Remington has some 375 round tins of .22s that look good for barter and long term storage. The tins are sealed with a pull-off lid sort of like cans of nuts. These aren't the most accurate .22s made, but are plenty good. I like to store things that I would use anyway, just in case the world suddenly goes sane. 8-> ... Buy American!
